Pugs: Cute & Funny

Pugs are known for their wrinkly face, curled tail and full-of-personality attitude. The Pug is an old breed of Chinese origin which has become very popular especially in the Western Europe. Despite their small size these dogs are described as “much in little” (multum in parvo).

Pug Temperament

Their animated spirit makes them good family dogs. They require training because they have a high level of energy and intelligence. If you have a Pug, you may also consider taking him for daily walks or ensure some kind of constant exercise for him. Pugs need a calm, confident owner who is consistent with the rules. They are inclined to become leaders of the pack and will probably take over the house if their owner doesn’t have a strong sense of leadership. They are sociable animals and get along very well with other pets.

Health Problems

Pugs can live in apartments as well as in big houses or yards. However a cozy environment might prevent Pugs from catching colds, since they are prone to them. A Pug might also have breathing issues, skin problems or Pug Dog Encephalitis, an inflammation of the brain. The wrinkles also attract bacteria and moisture so Pugs need to have careful clean of their face wrinkles. They tend to eat more than they need and this usually leads to obesity and shorter life. Their normal life expectancy is of 12 to 15 years.

Mopi

Mopi is a very fine pug, very playful and energetic. She belongs to one of my mom’s friends and she came to visit me several times. She has tons of toys and she loves fetching. So, the best way to play with her is to throw her toys around the house and she will fetch. I took her for a walk and what really surprised me was her aloof attitude. She seemed not very interested in any other dogs from the street or park. Therefore, her playful character is revealed only among people and not among other dogs.

As concerns the diet, the owner feeds her high-quality commercial dog food. The first time I saw her, she was a bit too fat and I suggested less food in her diet. The improvements were obvious in two weeks time.
